I absolutely love Red Kites. They were so scarce twenty years back, it is believed there were only a handful of wild breeding pairs in Wales and they were totally extinct in England.

Seeing one back then had some intangible allure to it and I don’t think that feeling has ever left me. Fortunately for us (and them), it is far more common to see them in the Beacons these days thanks to successful breeding programs and protection from the RSPB.

This actually may be my favourite ever shot, plus I have the memory of a beautiful day with my Dad in the Brecon Beacons tied to it.
